Funding

Our charity relies solely on public donations and fundraising.  All our therapy sessions are subsidised to ensure that every family can attend the therapy sessions they need. We therefore ask that if you are able to pay more for your session above the charity rates please feel free to do so.

We desperately need help to raise funds to continue to provide our subsidised sessions so please put us forward for any fundraising support and ask family and friends to support our charity work by organising a fundraiser or making a donation to help to provide specialist therapy sessions both for you and other families with children with Down syndrome who need our advice and support sessions.

If you are struggling to meet the costs of any of our sessions please get in contact us and we will endeavor to assist you.

Early Intervention Groups

In our Early Intervention Group’s (EIG’s), we place similar-ability children together for the sessions. Our SALT assess your child and gives advice with recommendations and ideas to improve skills and support progress with the next stage of development. The sessions focus on practical activities which parents & carers can incorporate into their everyday lives. The assessment activities are designed to obtain a true reflection of the child’s communication skills & physical needs and for the younger children, they are play-based and fun, with the child unlikely to be aware that they are being assessed.

The therapy is designed to be supportive and is expected to be ongoing with follow-up appointments every three to four months to maintain steady progress under expert eyes. At the end of the sessions parents receive a short written summary of the work covered in the sessions, with the targets and recommendations for further work at home. The EIG’s are an ideal way to meet other families for support and advice too.

“We have found the sessions to be very useful in providing clear recommendations for working with our son in order to help him to develop his speech and communication skills, fine and gross motor skills and cognitive development.”

Families can book a place at each session if there are available spaces.

Buddy-Up Sessions

The Buddy sessions consist of two children and allow for one-on-one time with each therapist as well as some shared time altogether. Our SLT & OT assesses each child in their respective areas, and give advice and recommendations with ideas on how to improve their skills and teach parents how to help their child with their next stage of development. The clinics are tailored the to meet each individual’s needs and a therapeutic programme will be developed which can be put in place at home, at their nursery or at school as appropriate.

The therapy is designed to be supportive and is expected to be ongoing with follow-up appointments every four to six months to maintain steady progress under expert eyes. At the end of the sessions parents receive a written summary of the work covered in the sessions, with the targets and recommendations for further work at home.

“A great source of intensive and tailored advice on both the learning development and the physical development. Great practical advice, useful materials to use at home and ideas for how to continue development.”

Further Appointment Information

Prior to receiving an appointment for the Early Intervention Group Sessions, our therapists may contact parents to gain a fuller understanding of where your child needs support. This helps us to plan the clinics and for families to gain the maximum therapy from their sessions.

Parents are contacted on return of the Referral form and an appointment will be arranged. Spaces are limited and we reserve the right to withdraw or review the frequency of therapy but will discuss this with parents.  All parents need to sign our Data Protection and information sharing policy.
